November is Diabetes Awareness Month
Diabetes happens when the body doesn’t make enough insulin, doesn’t make any insulin at all, or doesn’t respond to insulin the way it’s supposed to. Insulin has an important job in lowering blood sugar level, so if you have diabetes, your body has a tougher time managing your blood sugar. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 6 people with disabilities (16.7%) in the United States in 2018 had been diagnosed with diabetes, compared to 1 in 14 people without disabilities (7.4%). How can we make a difference? Check out the following links to learn more information regarding testing, diagnosis, & management of diabetes. https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/community-health-outreach/national-diabetes-month…

This month the goal is to promote movement. Physical activity could include taking a daily walk, participating in a fitness class, or doing a house chore. Let’s choose to become more active today! #letsgetmoving, #ChoosePT Side note: Shout out to our own Physical Therapist, our fellow founding member Gillian Christian! We celebrate you and your service all month long! Want to learn more about Gillian? Check out her bio here: https://abilitybeyondfitness.com/about-us/

It is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Ieoh Ming Pei (a Chinese-American architect) stated “success is a collaboration of problems solved”. This quote reflects the mission and vision of Ability & Beyond Fitness. Our success story is to bridge the equity gap in accessing physical fitness activities for individuals with a developmental disability. Many organizations have united in support of Asian Pacific Americans. We are an inclusive company where all are welcomed and will be treated equally. Write in the comments below about your experience with OT. We want to know the good, the bad, & the even the ugly! Ring the alarm! It’s OT month!! I am excited to celebrate, and be apart of this extraordinary profession that has been around for many years. A Reflection of Women’s History Month
“Women’s History Week” can be dated back to 1981. It was not until 1987 it became Women’s History month and later celebrated yearly. Who knew? Throughout our history, women and young girls have made crucial contributions. Women often faced discrimination and unjustifiable hardship. Fearless women marched for our right to vote, fought against many injustices, and broke the glass ceiling on countless barriers. Women expanded the possibilities of not only the American dream, but made changes across the world. Every year women’s history month is an important opportunity for us to recognize the women that have paved the way for us and little girls. They have fought extraordinary battles and…
